Tecmo Bowl Throwback: Throws Two Thumbs Up!

Tecmo Bowl Throwback is exactly as its titled, a new version mimicking the famous Tecmo Nintendo Game although sans the NFL/NFLPA licenses. The game features updated clean graphics and art, Season Play, and the ability to switch back and fourth between 3d and 2d for all those nostalgia lovers.

I love that even though the teams aren't NFL standardized that the cities are correct which makes the editing tool actually useful, allowing you to edit player names to be as close to the official NFL rosters as possible. Tecmo also did a fantastic job with creating unique, custom jerseys for each team, however the logo's are a bit lackadaisical.

The main reason why this game "works" is the fact that it does exactly what the title says, it is in fact a new version of the original game we all grew up loving. Items as blatantly obvious as the play calling all the way to the very faint hints of how the quarterback calls the "hut" "hut" "hut" cadence over and over while under center.

The only thing that the game really lacks is replay value, even with a "season mode" you are still picking 1 of 8 plays and zig-zagging up and down the field.

All in all the game is a great $10 purchase. There is just enough added to this game to allow a new age gamer to go along for the ride as well as just enough kept the same to keep the old school nostalgia seeker fascinated for a while.

Possible New Pikachu Centric Pokemon Game

In a mere two days, on Friday Oct. 12th, bazillions of fans will flock to their local retailers to obtain a copy of either Pokemon X or Pokemon Y, or in some cases both games for the Nintendo 3DS.  Thus perpetuating the habit of Nintendo continually selling us the same thing.

BUT- CEO and the Pokemon Co. president Tsunekazu Ishihara is set to appear on NHK Professional: Shigoto no Ryuungi on Oct 28th, and with that notice NHK makes mention of an all new Pokemon game that is potentially featuring Pikachu.
“This summer, Ishihara started development on a never before seen game,” the description reads. “It’s a new game featuring the very popular character Pikachu in a bold way. There is concern, however, that if it’s bad the long loved character would lose popularity in the blink of an eye.”

Gravity Rush Sequel: "Fall Again..."

Team Gravity has released this video of a new project with Kat from Gravity Rush falling through the skies.  The video was first shown at the Tokyo Game Show during Sony's sizzle real for upcoming Vita releases.
With what little I've seen, I'm sold already.  Gravity Rush is a must play game on the Playstation Vita.

     Here's the Official video release.

A NEW Mutant League Football Could be on the Way

Yes, you read that CORRECTLY.  Michael Mendheim, the creator of the original games has opened a Kickstarter for a new Mutant League Football.  The funding for the project is open until October 16th, 2013.  I also just noticed it's switched to Mutant Football League.

As a generally disinterested-in-sports person, I did love the Mutant League games.  Granted I was also a fan of the NBA Jam games and the various Boxing games out there, but the Mutant League games opened up an interest in sports.  Not much, but at least a little.
The old Sega Genesis version was a violent, yet hilarious parody of American Football.  I recall getting penalties for booger picking and throwing peoples torn off heads.  I would personally like a new version of Mutant League Hockey, but this is a start.

So far it's only planned for iOS, Android, and X Box Live.  I may support it if they port to Playstation or Vita.  And I'd definitely support it if they announce a new Mutant League Hockey.  Hell, if they could make an immense retro 16 bit version of the game, tons of fans would donate just for nostalgic glory.

Extra Life! Fundraiser

One of my friends, and fellow bloggers on this site, is participating in a fundraiser for children's health at the Extra Life Org.  I would ask that if you are a gamer, and would like to donate- that would be awesome.  ALL PROCEEDS go to the Children's Miracle Network Hospital (Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare).

Here's a link to his page: Jon T. and a snippet from the page:
Dear Family, Friends, Co-workers, and Acquaintances,

I'm on a mission to help save kids, and I need your help.

Our local Children's Miracle Network Hospital, Gillette Children's Specialty Healthcare, treats thousands of children each year, regardless of their family's ability to pay. These kids are facing scary stuff like cancer, cystic fibrosis, and injuries from accidents to name just a few.

On November 2nd, 2013, I will give an entire day of my time, dedicating it to play an epic 24 hour ( 25 hours if you include DST ) video game marathon to help raise money for sick and injured children, and it's my sincere hope that you'll find it in your heart to support this cause with a one-time gift that will go directly to our Minnesota CMN Gillette's Specialty Care Hospital.
This is a good cause, and if you can, it would be much appreciated for any donations made.  This will be the 2nd year I've supported and I urge people to help.  It's benefiting both children and gamers.  Sometimes it's a combination of the two.

Batman: Arkham Origins Gets MP

Batman: Arkham Origins Gets Multiplayer

The next installment in the Batman Arkham series is getting a multiplayer element thrown into the mix.  The mode is Invisible Predator Online and it is a 3 vs. 3 vs. 2, game mode.  The game mode pits 2 of Batman's greatest villains against each other and the dynamic duo as well.  One player from each villain team will play as the Joker and Bane, while the remaining 2 players play as souped up henchmen.  From what it sound's like, the game mode will be a combination of domination and team deathmatch.  However there have been rumors that the multiplayer mode will not be featured on the Wii U version of the game.

As for the henchmen, they will be running around with special gadgets like Enhanced Vision, which works like Batman’s Detective Vision to see other players through walls and objects but with limited battery power, and deadly themed weapons like the Joker gang’s “Surprise, You’re Dead!” proximity mine gift box or the Bane crew’s ultrasonic pulse that can zap enemies even through walls.

Konami on a new Castlevania game?

Konami hints new Castlevania game

Castlevania producer Dave Cox hinted at a new entry in the Lords of Shadow series, but whatever the new entry is, it will not be developed by Mercury Steam.  He has stated in a interview with Gamespot, that Spanish Dev. Mercury Steam will be moving away from the series because they told the story they wanted to tell, and there is nothing left to say, Cox suggested.

"I think Castlevania is a series that has evolved over the 26 years to what it is today and I think it's in good shape right now and I think people will really enjoy the last one," he stated. "There's a lot of surprises and I think we're going to deliver something unexpected."

As far as his stance on the current Castlevania series he stated the following in an interview with Gamespot, "I think if you've got something to say, you should just say it, and when you're done, just shut up," Cox said. "And we've got something to say. And once it's out there…I think it's time for somebody else; somebody younger, a younger producer to come in and take up the mantle and do what they think would be right for Castlevania and for us to move on to something else."

Cox had hinted at next-gen projects for Mercury Steam, as well as the interest to work in the Contra universe.  What do you think?  Has Mercury Steam shown the quality of their studio? Should they be allowed to take on another legendary IP such as Contra?  Would you even like to see a Contra reboot?

Castlevanai: Lords of Shadow 2 launches this winter for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and PC.

Nickelodeon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Game FINALLY Announced

After complaining a whole bunch about not getting a game based on the new show- Activision announces this.  I get half my wish, as the game will be coming to Xbox 360, Wii and 3DS- but for some reason NOT on PS3, Vita, or Wii U.

The new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be directly based on the Nickelodeon cartoon series, which is quite good.  The new show's style lends itself perfectly to gaming, and should've been a match they jumped on during the first season while it was airing on tv.  Honestly, this game looks better visually than the creepy turtles from TMNT: Out of the Shadows.

It appears to be a 4 player co-op brawler, and really, that's the only way to go for any game featuring the Ninja Turtles.  It's a short trailer, and not much is shown, so we'll have to wait to see more as Activision puts out more info as it nears the Oct 22 release date.

Borderlands 2: PAX Australia Announcements

More Borderlands 2 DLC.  Yes, I am always looking forward to this.  It was announced this morning that sometime this fall Borderlands 2 will be getting new missions, raid bosses and another raise in level cap.

The level cap will be increase 11 more levels (for a total of 72) as part of the Ultimate Vault Hunter Upgrade Pack 2: Digistruct Peak Challenge.  The challenge includes a new map with, my favorite character, Patricia Tannis having you fight high level enemies to "over-level to create an impossible challenge to earn new loot."  The Digistruct Peak Challenge will be available before the end of October for $5.

Gearbox is also releasing multiple Headhunter Packs.  Each pack will offer unique new missions and boss fights.  The first will contain the return of Zombie T.K. Baha who was last seen in The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned.  T.K. Baha's Bloody Harvest will have players fighting a giant pumpkin monster named Jaques O'Lantern to earn more customization rewards.  No price or release dates have been mentioned.

In addition, there will be a free upgrade giving us more bank and backpack slots as well as an even larger ammo capacity.

With Gearbox's next Community Day slated for September 14th, we should be getting more details before then.

Pitchford to Announce More Borderlands 2 DLC Details Tomorrow

Gearbox head honcho Randy Pitchford had mentioned more Borderlands 2 DLC previously and now he has given us just a bit more info- sometime tomorrow we'll be given the details on at least one of the planned projects at the San Diego Comic-con.
As we've really no other information than "more DLC coming," what could be on the horizon of our beloved Pandora?  More skins, playable characters, or even campaigns?  Whatever it is, I hope it's more than simple heads and skins.  There's plenty more than we need already.

While it's unlikely, I'm hoping for another campaign DLC that's on par with Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep.

BF4 Single player details

Battlefield 4 Single Player Campaign Details

Dice's upcoming Battlefield installment will unfortunately feature a single player campaign that will take the player across the globe.  The campaign in Battlefield 4 will take place in destinations like Azerbaijan, Shanghai, and Singapore, DICE said. In one chapter, players will rescue VIPs, among them a CIA field operative known as Laszlo W. Kovic.

While you will be rescuing Kovic in the game, he is also the focus of the upcoming Battlefield novel that gives back-story to Laszlo W. Kovic.

Battlefield 4 releases October 29th 2013 for the Xbox 360, PC, and Playstation 3.  The PS4 and X1 versions are in the works, but do not have a release date yet.

HD Strider Reboot in the works

HD Strider reboot coming in 2014

Newly announced side scrolling Strider game in the works, by CAPCOM.  Details on the game are in the links below as well as a 7 minute game-play video.  While it may not have next gen graphics, it does look to have the feel of the Megaman X series meets Mark of the Ninja.  While I will continue to wait for the Megaman X series to be rebooted, for now I will settle for this up and coming side scroller in the meantime.

Strider is set to be digitally released for Xbox 360, Xbox 1, PC, PS3 and PS4 in 2014.  As of this writing it has NOT been confirmed for the Wii U.

Video Games and Violence: John Stossel vs. Franklin Graham

Billy Graham's son, Franklin Graham, went on tv to talk about how horrible video games are for society, and in a wonderful turn of events, Fox Business's John Stossel makes a couple amazing replies.  It's not often that I agree with Mr. Stossel, but thank you sir, as this was an informed respose to Graham's ridiculous ideas.
Once again- Blogger will NOT allow me to embed the video, so here is the link:

I'm Ron Burgundy?

Has anyone asked Graham if he'd appreciate the Bible being taxed, because of all the violence it has caused?  Not only is the Holy Writ loaded with violence, it has been the source and inspiration of violence on the largest scales possible.

I absolutely love how Stossel refers to the same argument made about comics, specifically against Superman in the 1950's.  Seriously, Superman- the most moral, upstanding American ideal- was cited as causing violence.  Absurd.

Microsoft drops Xbox One DRM and Internet restrictions

No matter how hard they tried to explain their intentions, Microsoft just couldn't seem to convince gamers that despite the Xbox One’s restrictions, the benefits would outweigh the costs. So, in what will surely be considered as one of the greatest turnabouts in video game history, Microsoft has officially announced that they are reversing their DRM and Internet connection policies for the Xbox One. In short, the new Xbox One will be just like your Xbox 360.

A New Site. A New Start.

Sony's E3 presentation ended a little while ago and they knocked it out of the park.  There will be tons of material written on it- but for tonight- just, an introduction to this site.  I began this site primarily for gamers, but hope to include comics, movies, and television fairly quickly.
This is just a small start.
There will be much more to come.
